Elissa Orr, CPM, LM
Owner & Midwife | Crowned in Joy Midwifery
Elissa Orr is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Licensed Midwife serving families throughout the Smith Mountain Lake area and surrounding communities. As a devoted Christian, Elissa views her work as a calling, finding great purpose in supporting the miracle of life and providing compassionate, faith-based care to the families she serves.
Experience & Education
Elissa’s journey into birth work began in early 2018. Since then, she has built a robust clinical background:
• Clinical Training: Completed a rigorous apprenticeship through Breath of Life (2019–2023).
• Experience: Has attended over 200 births—supporting 100 families during her clinical training and over 100 more as a primary licensed midwife.
• Professional Background: Prior to founding Crowned in Joy Midwifery, Elissa served the community with Luna Midwifery.
• Specialized Support: Certified Birth and Bereavement Doula through Stillbirthday University (since 2018).
My Philosophy
At Crowned in Joy, the focus is always on mom-centered care. Elissa is dedicated to ensuring every client feels heard, respected, and empowered to achieve the birth they desire. She blends the “heart of a doula” with the clinical expertise of a midwife to provide a holistic and safe experience.
Safety & Certification: Elissa maintains current certifications in CPR and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), ensuring the highest standards of safety for both mother and baby.
